Let’s Talk About Personal Hygiene
Let me tell you something about a guy named Gilbert that I met a few years ago. I met Gilbert, who works at another company next door from where I used to work as a video editor. If I remember correctly, this story happened during my first three weeks working for that company. All in all he’s a nice guy and I envy him for the most part. We were just the same age but he has already accomplished, or should I say acquired most of the things that I have ever wanted. A good and a high paying job, a nice car, a nice apartment all by himself, he wears nice clothes, latest gadgets and he travels frequently all over the world. Actually, it was not only me who envied him because of his lifestyle. Most of the guys that works in our respective companies felt the same way about him.
Although we never get formally acquainted, but we say our “hi'” and “hello” to each other once in a while, because our offices are just neighbors. There was one time that both our bosses decided to close the offices early and go out for a drink. They invited their staff to join them and everybody got so excited that nobody even bothered to go home to change appropriately for the occasion. We just decided to go straight to the bar. And because majority of the staff doesn’t have their own cars, including me, so the group decided to hitch a ride to those who own a ride. And in my surprise, nobody wanted to ride with Gilbert even if he has a nice car. An Infiniti G36. And so I volunteered to go with him. And as soon as I got inside his car, I immediately realized the reason why nobody wants to be with him inside his car or possibly any car. Why? He’s got a body odor! Sure, he’s got an air freshener inside his car, but amazingly, the natural fresh scent of the air freshener was being over powered by the smell that’s coming out of his body.
God! I wanted to change my mind and get out of his car immediately, but it was too late and I don’t want to humiliate him. I swear that I can’t even make a full deep breath. Because if I do, surely I will pass out. And I swear, it was the longest twenty minutes ride of my entire life.
So, why am I telling you this?
Many people and experts have varying opinions about how one should improve himself when it comes to style and grooming. But before you jump into the major factors on self-improvement, one should ask the question of what is the first thing that you need to improve above all else. Some might say, your wardrobe. Others might say, your confidence and self-esteem. But in my opinion, it should be your personal hygiene. Let’s put it this way: let’s say just like Gilbert, you have style and a rock-solid confidence to approach any girl at any time and be able to talk to her without flinching. Do you think she or anyone in general would talk to you if your breath stinks? Or if you have a body odor or a stinky feet? I firmly believe that the first step on this journey is to do something about your hygiene first and foremost. I just hope that you’re not telling me I am wrong about this and I also hope that you are not skipping this part because this is one of the most important. Admit it or not. Just remember that women, even men, pay attention to every detail in your body way more than you’ll ever notice. And it is a good idea to improve your hygiene first above anything else.
Now, what would you do about it? In this post, I will share with you the five basic ways to improve or maintain a good hygiene. These are simple and easy enough to do on a regular basis, so having an excuse not to follow this is way out of the question.
1. TAKE A SHOWER AT LEAST ONCE A DAY
For me, there is nothing more refreshing in the body than a nice hot shower in the morning and before going to bed, depending on your preference or the local climate condition. Morning shower will wake your entire body up to help you start the day in a much lighter and brighter way. Before going to bed in the evening, it is advisable but rather optional to take a shower. In this way, you will be able to get rid of the dusts, dirt, stress and other negative feelings out of your body. It will also help your body and mind to refresh before sleep.
2. BRUSH YOUR TEETH
What would be your first impression if someone with a friendly smile approaches you for a chat, but the first thing you notice is a green speck in between his/her teeth? Or every time that they talk, you can smell some tuna and onions on their breath. What kind of first impression do you think you would have on them? Exactly! So brushing your teeth regularly, at least twice a day, is vitally important in maintaining a good hygiene. You don’t necessarily have to brush after every meal. If you don’t have a dental floss in your pocket, at least go to the men’s room and gargle with water and check your teeth in the mirror for any unwanted specks. Asking a waiter for a toothpick is fine, rather than be embarrassed because of your lack of consideration for your hygiene.
3. ALWAYS WEAR FRESH CLOTHES
Wearing fresh clothes every day when going to school or in the office will not only give a good impression to other people that you are taking care of your well being, but will also avoid you from getting skin infections. Wearing the same clothes for a few days without washing will result for the bacteria and microorganisms to harbor in your clothes, and of course the end result will be skin infections and body odor. So please, gentlemen unless there is no other option, wash your clothes first with a detergent soap and let it dry before wearing it again.
4. WEAR A DEODORANT
Deodorant helps by destroying the bacteria on the skin that causes body odor, especially when we sweat. Simple as that.
5. CUT YOUR FINGERNAILS REGULARLY
Our hands are one of the most important part of our body. But of course, every single part of our body is important. But our hands are the busiest that we use it in every thing that we do. We use our hands to drive a car, to cook food, to tie our neckties and so on. Because of this, our hands are very prone to germs and bacteria that we gather as we busy ourselves on these activities. As you may know, these microorganisms can cause diseases if not properly handled. Even if we wash our hands with soap or apply a hand sanitizer, these bacteria stays in our fingernails. So if you are a man, having a clean fingernails at all times will not only net you good look points, but the people around you will thank you for taking the time to care for your hygiene.
Congratulations! You now know the five basic ways on how to improve or maintain a good hygiene, it is now time to move on to more serious matter. In the next post, we will talk about how to eliminate three of the most common problems most men faces in terms of hygiene.
See you then.
